Following an open competitive tender process conducted by the Republic of Malawi and IFC, the consortium of EDF and SN Power was officially appointed in September 2022 as the Strategic Sponsors to lead the development and implementation of the project under a Public-Private Partnership, alongside the Government of Malawi and IFC.
In July 2022, Mpatamanga Hydro Power Limited was incorporated by SN Malawi BV (owned by TotalEnergies and its partners British International Investment (BII) and Norfund), and EDF International (owned by EDF SA) each owning 50%. MHPL is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the project and is a private limited company registered under the laws of Malawi.
Ownership
The consortium of SN Malawi BV (owned by TotalEnergies and its partners British International Investment (BII) and Norfund), and EDF International (owned by EDF SA) currently holds 100% of the shares in Mpatamanga Hydro Power Limited however the project development plan includes the following shareholding structure:
